You will develop your knowledge and understanding of the physiology and pathological process related to the respiratory, cardiovascular, central nervous, endocrine, renal, gastrointestinal and immunological systems of the premature and ill neonate requiring special and transitional neonatal care.
This will enable you to recognise developing illness and initiate plans of care.
You will critically engage with the global evidence-base on neonatal special and transitional care building relevant research skills.
The principles of supportive neurodevelopmental care will underpin the management discussed with family integrated care and multidisciplinary approaches at the forefront of your practice.

This module is focused on the neonate within a high acuity setting, often defined as high dependency or intensive neonatal care.
The module aims to support you to develop your knowledge and understanding of premature and sick neonates as they transition to extra uterine life and may present with complex illness, together with the needs of their families and carers.
The content will provide a systems-based approach to normal and disordered physiology and pathophysiology relevant to the neonate requiring high dependency or intensive care.
You will critically engage with the global evidence base which guides the therapeutic options for these infants. The principles of family integrated care, the practice of neonatal neuro developmental supportive care and importance of multidisciplinary working will be integrated into the outlined management.
