Students who complete a range of vocational qualifications recognised by the Qualifications Credit Framework can now ‘top up’ to degree level by joining the BA Business and Enterprise. The overall programme will provide:

Workplace based learning, linked to organisational as well as personal objectives, designed to help you deliver business and personal results
Learning and activities designed to help enhance the businesses in which you are working
Development of enterprising people able to take forward the challenges of modern businesses or organisations

The BABE programme structure is very flexible and is built around the following modules:

Creativity, Innovation and Enterprise (20 credits)
Business Processes (20 credits)
Business Growth Issues (20 credits)
Work-based learning project (60 credits)

The aim of BA Business & Enterprise is to develop you and enhance your career opportunities. Assessments are therefore practical and applied, including reports around work roles, workplace-based assignments and case studies. BA Business & Enterprise has no traditional exams, we want you to apply your learning.

Before you commence a module, we will provide you with a full guide to the University, your programme, and the support that is available to you. In addition to the module materials, you will receive full support from module leaders, the programme leader, full access to our online library support, as well as being able to contact our dedicated administration team, should you have any queries.

On graduating, you will be well placed to address business and organisational issues, work in innovative creative ways and achieve results for you, your career and your organisation. Progression is possible to a range of Masters Programmes.

MODULE DETAILS

CREATIVITY, INNOVATION AND ENTERPRISE

Definitions of creativity, innovation and enterprise; consideration of the range of tools and techniques used in organisations to encourage creativity; characteristics of the innovative organisation, and how to create an appropriate environment for creativity; consideration of barriers to creativity and how to overcome them; the planning process of New Product/Service Development within enterprising organisations.
BUSINESS PROCESSES

Internal analysis within the business: functions and value chain activities; capabilities, core competencies and the significance of cross functional processes. The organisational functions of operations, marketing, human resource management, and information management: within each area the essence of the functional activity, its strategic role and measures of effectiveness will be examined; at least one key cross functional process within each area will act as a ‘focal point’ or ‘catalyst’ e.g. operations and supply chain management.
BUSINESS GROWTH ISSUES

Emphasis will be on entrepreneurial leadership of small and growing businesses and the key issues facing them. The module workshops will include; growth models to understand the phases of growth and seek evidence in organisations; identifying and reviewing examples of building growth businesses, and the role of the entrepreneur in the leadership of these businesses; the growth of businesses will be evaluated by utilising the strategic management tools including strategic analysis, strategic choices and strategic implementation options.
WORK-BASED LEARNING PROJECT

Students will establish a Personal Learning plan and, over a 12-month period, apply learning from the course and other related areas, reflect on application and evaluate results. Students will complete and submit monthly Learning Logs, working towards achieving the learning plan objectives. All students will be required
to set objectives for, reflect on and evaluate six learning outcomes, two from each of Personal, Job and Course Related outcomes. Students will have a choice for Personal and Job-Related Outcomes and will have one mandatory and one option for Course Related Outcomes, the mandatory outcome requiring students to apply learning gained from the other academic modules of the overall year’s programme.The learning objectives, from which choices can be made are: ‘Job’ (J); ‘Personal’ (P); and ‘Course’ (C): P1 Communicate effectively within a range of business or organisational contexts; P2 Apply the skills necessary to effectively lead a team; P3 Plan and prioritise work in order to achieve business/organisational outcomes; P4 Demonstrate self-confidence and initiative in a range of business / organisational situations; J1 Take responsibility for specific business/organisational outcomes and learn from their achievement; J2 Demonstrate understanding of business/organisational functions, processes and structures; J3 Analyse problems and suggest strategies to overcome them; J4 Analyse the needs of internal / external customers; C1 Relate current theory of business and enterprise to workplace practice and problems; C2 Analyse the business or organisational environment faced within the workplace; C3 Evaluate how academic study interacts with and influences the workplace; C4 Evaluate the impact of enterprise, management and leadership skills and styles within the workplace.

DURATION

The programme can be completed in a minimum of one year or a maximum of three years.

ASSESSMENTS

All assessments are conducted online and normally comprise multiple choice questions plus a report, essay or similar. Examinations are not used for assessment.

APPLICATIONS

Admission will be open to those who have successfully completed an Associate Degree or equivalent in a relevant area.

Some students may lack prior tertiary level qualifications however, if they can demonstrate that they have acquired 5 or more years of relevant professional experience they will be considered for direct entry to the Top-up.
