MODULE OVERVIEW

  • People and Organisational Development

    This module includes critical examination of the impact of people management on organisational and individual behaviour in the key areas of organisational change, leadership, motivation, engagement, and employee well-being (including coaching in the workplace), within the contexts of HRM, OD and OB. This module examines the changing role of the HR function, its influence on achieving competitive advantage, and the broader context in which it operates. The module is also concerned with learner development of a business orientation, a concern with adding value through HR practice, and a range of skills pivotal to successful people management practice and effective leadership. This includes critical reflection, problem solving and decision-making skills; enhanced IT proficiency and academic writing skills along with developing personal effectiveness and credibility at work.

Assessment
  • Assessments are completed and submitted through the secure learning environment. The schedule for assessments is published in advance. There are no formal exams – assessment is by end of unit quizzes and end of module assignments.
Duration
  • The MSc HRM comprises seven “taught” modules and a Dissertation to a timescale that matches your requirements, but can be completed in 18 months.
Admissions Criteria
  • Ideally, you will hold a first degree at 2:2 or above, or an equivalent qualification for entry into this programme.
  • Alternatively, you may have an equivalent professional qualification, or qualifications and experience that are equivalent. In this case, you will be asked to produce a specified piece of work as part of the selection process.
  • If you don’t have a first degree, we value appropriate professional, administrative or managerial qualifications obtained from a recognised association or body.
  • People who do not possess a first degree may be enrolled in the first instance as an Associate student for the first trimester. Satisfactory performance from two modules may then result in registration on the MSc HRM programme.
